Medium term financial statement and annual budget

When setting the annual budget each year we prepare an outlook covering a four year period, the Medium Term Financial Strategy (MTFS). This strategy is essential to support the continuing delivery of high quality services.

The councils' spending plans continue to be linked to residents' and the Government's national priorities for all local authorities. Our Annual Budgets for 2017/18 and  MTFS for the years through to 2019/20, were set in February 2017, prepared  in context of the multi-year Government funding settlement which is intended to give participating local authorities increased certainty of funding through to 2019/20.

Both Lewes and Eastbourne Council's continue to set balanced budgets without the need to draw form reserves to support recurring expenditure.  The philosophy is to maintain and enhance services to the public whilst meeting the financial challenge through efficiencies and income generation.
