Lewes District Council is urging residents to take part in drop in events being held across the district as part of the latest public consultation on the draft Lewes District Local Plan.

The consultation, which runs until February 28, 2026, follows Cabinet approval in December for the next phase of engagement. The Local Plan will guide where new homes, employment space and community facilities should be located up to 2042, based on detailed evidence and the significant environmental and physical constraints of the district.

The programme of drop‑in events has now been confirmed, offering residents the chance to speak directly with planning officers, ask questions, and learn more about the proposals being consulted upon. People are welcome to attend whichever event is most convenient, regardless of where they live.

Residents who want to see the consultation documents in advance of the planned events, can visit locations across the district where paper copies are available - full details are available at www.lewes-eastbourne.gov.uk/lewes-local-plan

Councillor Zoe Nicholson, Leader of Lewes District Council, said:

"These drop‑in sessions are one of the most important ways for people to get involved. The Local Plan will shape our communities for years to come, and we want as many residents as possible to come along, talk to us, and share their views.

"Every opinion matters and attending an event is a powerful way to make sure your voice is part of the conversation."

Drop‑in event dates:

  • 26 January (Monday), 16:00-20:00 - Beechwood Hall, Cooksbridge,
  • 29 January (Thursday), 15:00-19:00 - Lewes Town Hall, Lewes

An unstaffed exhibition will also be available at The Marine Workshops, Railway Quay, Newhaven, from January 26 to February 6, open 9am-4pm on weekdays and 10am-2pm on Saturdays.

Councillor Laurence O'Connor, Cabinet Member for Planning and Infrastructure, added:

"We know the issues in this consultation affect people deeply, from housing need to protecting our unique landscapes. That's why these events are so valuable. I strongly encourage residents to come along, even if only for a short time. Your feedback will help us refine the plan and ensure it reflects the realities and priorities of our district."
