What can I put in my bin?

We encourage you to recycle as much as you can in the recycling bins we provide.

If you generate more recycling than you can fit in your bin, please don't leave the extra recycling next to the bin as we won't be able to collect it. Instead, why not order a larger size or an additional recycling bin for free.

Eastbourne
1. Please put items in loose, not in bags.
  
  The following can be put into the garden waste bins (brown):
  - Grass cuttings
  - Shrub cuttings
  - Plant cuttings
  - Flower cuttings
  - Weeds
  - Branches up to 15cm (6 inches) in diameter
  - Roots
  - Herbivorous pet bedding
  The following cannot be put in your garden waste bin:
  - Cardboard
  - Food waste
  - Cat litter and dog waste
  - Soil and rubble
  - Treated and painted wood
  - Japanese Knotweed
2. Household waste must be in bags. We cannot collect it loose.
  
  The following can be put in your household waste (black wheelie bin):

  - Disposable nappies
  - Cat litter/ dog waste
  - Foil/lined pouches (such as crisp packets)
  - Broken glass (securely double-bagged)
  We cannot collect:
  - Any extra bags left outside of your wheelie bin
  - Infectious clinical waste and needles
  - DIY waste
  - Builders rubble
  - Soil
  - Hot ashes
  - Bulky items or hazardous waste such as asbestos or chemicals
  - Household batteries
3. Please rinse any food or drink containers, including tins, bottles and boxes.

  - Newspapers, magazines, catalogues, phone directories, paperback books
  - Cardboard boxes (including delivery boxes and cereal boxes)
  - Junk mail and envelopes (including window envelopes)
  - Office paper
  - Wrapping paper and greetings cards (non-plastic and non-glittery)
  - Shredded paper (in clear bags please)
  Metals:
  - Food tins and drink cans (rinsed)
  - Clean baking foil and clean foil food trays
  - Aerosol cans (empty) but not paint, fertilizer or weed killer cans or sprays
  - Metal lids from bottles or jars
  Plastics:
  - Plastic bottles (rinsed and squashed with lids put back on)
  - Plastic containers (marked 1 PET, 2 HDPE, 5 PP)
  - Plastic film including magazine wrappers and tops of food trays
  - Carrier bags, plastic bags and sacks (not black ones)
  - Plastic packaging including those that contained batteries or toys for example
  - Plastic bleach and cleaning bottles (empty)
  Glass:
  - Glass bottles and jars (all colours, with lids removed)
  You cannot recycle:

  Unfortunately, if you put these in your recycling bin, we will not collect the bin. You will have to remove the items and wait for your next collection.
  
  If you cannot wait this long, you can also visit a recycling centre yourself in between collections.
