Street trading in the Lewes district

If you want to sell, expose or offer for sale any article (including a living thing) within a 'consent area' then you must hold a Street Trading Consent issued to you by this authority.

Lewes district consent areas include certain roads and precincts within Lewes, Newhaven, Falmer, A26 and A27. You can download maps indicating which areas require street trading (marked in blue on each map) below.

Street trading fees in Lewes district

Individual traders

  • Application fee: £25
  • Daily stall fee: £10
  • Weekly stall fee: £75
  • Annual stall fee: £475

Market operators

  • Annual fee: £430

Street trading in Eastbourne

Eastbourne Borough Council regulates street trading in the borough. Before starting a street trading application, please download and read the policy and guidance below. An application usually takes around six weeks to process.

Street trading fees in Eastbourne 

The fees for street trading consent are:

  • Application fee: £25
  • Daily rate: £30
  • Weekly rate: £175 inside the Town Centre Zone
  • Annual rate: £475 for traders outside of the Town Centre Zone

Street trading prohibited streets

Please note, street trading is prohibited on the seafront promenade and beach up to high tide unless it is part of a pre-arranged event we have authorised.

Street trading is also prohibited on all A roads and roads where the speed limit is anything over 30 miles per hour, including:

  • A2021 - Willingdon Roundabout to Seaside
  • A2040 - Upperton Road to Bedfordwell Road
  • A22 - Lottbridge Roundabout to Borough boundary
  • A2270 - Borough boundary to The Goffs
  • A2280 - Rodmill Roundabout to Lottbridge Roundabout
  • A2290 - Seaside Roundabout to Lottbridge Roundabout
  • A259 - Borough Boundary (East Dean) to Borough Boundary (Pevensey Bay)
