Council food waste pilot paves the way for spring rollout across Eastbourne
Eastbourne Borough Council is trialling food waste collections for around 200 homes in Langney Point ahead of a full Eastbourne-wide rollout this spring.

They are also speaking to residents in Langney Point, handing out leaflets that outline the new free service and highlight what items can be put inside food waste bins and when they will be collected.
The pilot will run in Aylesbury Avenue, Gardner Close, Wade Close, Woodward Close.
Councillor Colin Swansborough, Cabinet Member for Regulatory Services, said: "This pilot is an important step towards introducing food waste recycling across Eastbourne.
By working directly with residents in Langney Point, we can ensure the service is easy to use, efficient, and ready for a successful full rollout in the spring. We're grateful to everyone taking part and helping us shape a cleaner, greener future for the town."
Weekly food waste collections in the trial area will begin on Tuesday, March 3, and will take place every following Tuesday. This has been organised to coincide with the existing refuse and recycling day, although crews may attend at a different time of day.
The trial will be used to help train the crew and to test out the new electric collection vehicles.
Councillor Swansborough added: "Introducing free food waste collections will help us cut down on the amount of household waste sent for incineration by diverting it to a dedicated composting facility. Using our ultra low emission electric collection vehicles also supports our ongoing commitment to reach carbon net zero. We know this represents a new routine for residents, and we're committed to making the changeover as clear and easy as possible."
