The appointment was confirmed this week and follows a joint procurement process that marks the start of a new approach to the care and management of parks, open spaces and nature sites across both areas.

The new contract with Eastbourne Borough Council and Lewes District Council will run for five years from April 2026, with the option to extend for a further five years.

Councillor Jim Murray, Cabinet Member for Carbon Neutral 2030 at Eastbourne Borough Council, said: "This new contract represents a significant step forward in our commitment to achieving a cleaner, greener and more climate‑resilient Eastbourne.

"Glendale's approach aligns strongly with our carbon neutral goals, particularly through their focus on sustainable practices and community involvement. We are looking forward to this partnership delivering a high‑quality, environmentally responsible service that benefit residents across the town."

Glendale demonstrated a strong and comprehensive offer across all key areas of service delivery including high‑quality maintenance standards, particularly in priority locations such as playgrounds, sports areas and retirement housing; robust staffing plans; strong performance monitoring and digital reporting; and a clear commitment to community collaboration, including working closely with resident groups and local organisations.

Councillor Emily O'Brien, Cabinet Member for Climate, Nature and Food Systems at Lewes District Council, said: "Our parks and green spaces are an absolute priority for this council.

"We are really pleased to be moving forward with Glendale as our new contractor. Through a highly competitive process they gave us confidence that they can meet the standards our residents rightly expect, but also that they share our ambition to enhance biodiversity, improve our green spaces, and support local communities. This new partnership will help us deliver a more resilient, environmentally‑focused and responsive service for the district."

Glendale was named Pro Landscaper's Grounds Maintenance Company of the Year 2025 and also achieved the title of Pro Landscaper Business Awards Supreme Winner 2025.

Nick Brooks, Regional Director at Glendale Countryside Limited, said: "We are delighted to have been chosen to deliver this new era of grounds maintenance. We understand how important green spaces are to the health and wellbeing of the community, and we are committed to a service that prioritises biodiversity and environmental resilience. We look forward to working side-by-side with both councils and local communities to protect and improve these spaces for the future."
