Eastbourne Town Hall to be transformed into vibrant Creative and Cultural Hub
Council launches expressions of interest for space to rent
The council is inviting expressions of interest to rent vacant space, which will become available in early 2026, within the Grade II listed building. These offer flexible co-working and studio options for start-ups, digital professionals, creative practitioners and cultural groups.
Alongside delivering cultural value for the town, this strategy has been designed to activate newly available civic spaces and generate income, following the council's successful transition of its main offices back to 1 Grove Road.
Councillor Jenny Williams, Cabinet Member for Tourism and Place, said: "I have always believed that this magnificent building should be truly the Town's Hall - a place for everyone in Eastbourne.
"By inviting our vibrant creative and cultural sector into this space, we are opening a new chapter, ensuring this landmark remains a beating heart of the community and reinforcing the town's cultural potential.".
The available spaces are diverse, accommodating various needs from individuals to teams, including:
- Studio East: A versatile, naturally lit ground floor area, ideal for pop-up galleries or small teams (approx. 85.9 m²).
- The Residency: A cluster of five connecting ground floor rooms for short-term artistic residencies and collaborative work.
- The Chamber: A historic first-floor room perfect for functions, lectures, or office space (approx. 115.0 m²).
- The Lookout: A top-floor space with panoramic views, suited for design studios or collaborative workspaces (approx. 132.7 m²).
The spaces are offered on flexible lease terms, with rent including service charges, heating, and electricity.
Councillor Williams added: "This is a crucial step in ensuring the building is maintained and remains financially viable while safeguarding the Town Hall's availability in the long term. This is important because my aspiration is that Eastbourne becomes the centre of the new unitary authority for East Sussex from April 2028."
