Hundreds of eligible, pension age households in East Sussex are missing out on pension credit. Pension credit gives you extra money to help with living costs if you're over state pension age and on a low income.

You can receive pension credit even if you have other income, savings or own your own home. It is also separate from the state pension.

Councillor Stephen Holt said:

"The impending hike in energy costs is the latest evidence to show that we remain in the grip of the cost of living crisis.

This, compounded with the decision of the Government to reduce Winter Fuel Payment eligibility means that hundreds of Eastbourne residents may not be claiming what they are entitled to.

"I would encourage everyone to check their eligibility and receive whatever support they are entitled to. If you are not sure if you are eligible, I would encourage you to check out https://www.gov.uk/pension-credit-calculator or contact the Citizen's Advice Bureau or Age Concern."

Claiming Pension Credit doesn't just top up your income - it could also help you get other benefits, including help with health and housing costs.

To check eligibility and find out more, visit www.gov.uk/pension-credit or call 0800 99 1234.

If you'd like support to complete the application form, contact your local Citizens Advice. Visit citizensadviceeastsussex.org.uk for more information.
