Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a hormonal condition that affects an estimated 8% to 13% of reproductive-aged women and is associated with a variety of long-term physical and emotional problems. It is the leading cause of female infertility.

The Mayor of Eastbourne, Councillor Candy Vaughan, said: "PCOS is a serious disorder that can lead to lifelong complications and sadly, up to 70% of affected women remain undiagnosed worldwide.

"I hope that our illumination helps spread awareness of this condition so that more women get the diagnosis, treatment and support they need."

Eastbourne Town Hall clock will join more than 370 landmarks around the globe including bridges, castles and council buildings in around 30 countries, being lit up for World PCOS Day.

September 1 is also the start of PCOS Awareness Month - see https://pcosawarenessmonth.org

The illuminations in the UK support the work of self-help group Verity PCOS UK. For more information visit https://www.verity-pcos.org.uk/
