The event is designed to help local people or groups set up a social enterprise - a business that aims to shape positive change in the world and puts the interests of people and the planet ahead of shareholder gain.

It is being delivered by not-for-profit agency Edeal in association with Eastbourne Borough Council and will be held on Monday, October 7, at The View Hotel, Eastbourne.

Councillor Colin Swansborough, Cabinet Member for Enterprise, said: "This is a great opportunity for anyone who has recently started, or is thinking about launching, a social enterprise or community interest company (CIC).

"The workshop will give you a comprehensive understanding of what is involved in setting up a business with a social or environmental mission, explaining the groundwork needed for success, as well as providing information about further resources available."

The workshop is part of The Business Support in Eastbourne project that has received £77,000 from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

Mina O'Brien, Chair of Eastbourne Carnival CIC, was among those who attended this workshop last year. She said: "It was very helpful in understanding how to consider your mission and vision and putting good foundations in place for your social enterprise.  The workshop explained the intricacies and terminology in this context.

"It was a very useful grounding, particularly if you are new to running a non-profit organisation."
