The council hopes to secure planning permission for the new lighting designs in the car park soon, with installation quickly following and visitors being welcomed again in the summer.

Councillor Zoe Nicholson, Leader of Leader of Lewes District Council, said:

"It's great news that the top decks at Dacre Road car park are nearing completion and available again to shoppers in Newhaven town centre this summer.

"I know I speak for councillor colleagues when I say how proud and exciting it is to be involved in delivering this once in a lifetime project."

Lewes District Council is managing a multi-million transformation of Newhaven town centre that includes the relocation of two doctor's surgeries to new healthcare facilities in Newhaven Square, and the expansion of Wave Active facilities at Seahaven Swim & Fitness to support the rehabilitation of patients and promotion of healthier, more active lifestyles.

Councillor Nicholson added:

"I'm delighted that the designs for the new surgeries have now been agreed, with an anticipated start on site later this summer and a target completion by early 2026."
