Trading standards for food

East Sussex Training Standards work with organisations like Consumer Direct to advise you about your legal rights when buying goods or services. They ensure that East Sussex businesses are trading fairly and within the law.

Find out about the role of Trading Standards on the East Sussex County Council (ESCC) website.

Food labelling and composition

The labelling and composition of food is dealt with by Trading Standards. They can also provide advice and guidance on issues such as food allergens.

Food allergy and intolerance

Visit the Foods Standards Agency (FSA) website for allergen advice for businesses on what information to provide to customers who need to avoid certain ingredients.

Food contamination complaints

Trading standards also have responsibilities to investigate food complaints. They would generally deal with labelling concerns and out of date foods. Visit the Trading Standards Institute for general advice and guidance.
