Sandbags

It is the responsibility of property owners to take any necessary action to protect their property.

We strongly advise you to take your own steps to protect your property as we cannot guarantee to meet all demands for sandbags.

Sandbags for residents in the Lewes district

We recommend that you check the  Met Office website for the latest forecasts and check Gov.uk's Gov.uk flood warnings and alerts live look-up service. The areas on the map below show where sandbags are stored and accessible to the public.

Sandbag stores have been checked and are all open 24 hours a day, except for Landport. Please only take as many as you need.

Elderly or vulnerable residents are asked to seek assistance from neighbours or friends to collect sandbags on their behalf.

This interactive map shows locations where sandbags can be collected:

Sandbags for Eastbourne residents

We keep a stock of sandbags for use during an emergency to maintain the town's sea defences.  This stock is strategically deployed during an emergency and we are unable to assist in defending individual properties.

If you live in an area identified as at risk from flooding you should have received advice from the Environment Agency on property protection and damage limitation. Property owners within a flood risk area are recommended to keep their own stock of sandbags.
