Like many other services and industries, the council is facing unprecedented pressures on its repairs budgets with increasing inflation affecting material and labour costs. Historically, there has been some flexibility when attending to a repair, that if the item needing repair was assessed as being close to the end of its economic life, it was renewed. Unfortunately, with the ongoing cost pressures we face, to manage our expenditure our service must now be limited to essential repairs only.
What will this mean for you?
If we take your call, and do not consider the repair is essential, or where the repair is completed and our contractor recommends that further works should be considered in the future, we will keep a record and the property team will review and prioritise when and if the work can be done. We will prioritise works inside your home and to the structure of the building rather than fencing, gates, sheds and garages, which we will endeavour to keep in a safe condition. Please tell us if works 'on-hold' start to deteriorate and we will do our best to help.
We appreciate this situation is frustrating but we ask all callers to please treat our staff with respect. Verbal abuse of our teams will not be tolerated and may result in your call being terminated.
Find out who is responsible for the repair and how to report it to us by selecting your council below.
Gas leaks
If you smell gas call National Grid Gas Emergencies on 0800 111999 this is a 24 hour emergency line. Please also inform us also after you have reported the incident.

Right to Repair terms for claims and compensation
Lewes District council, under the Right to Repair scheme has to carry out certain urgent repairs within given time limits where the cost does not exceed £250.00.
For the repair to qualify under the scheme you must provide a time for the contractor to carry out the work and possibly for a Lewes District council maintenance surveyor to carry out an inspection. If not then you will invalidate any claim you may have been able to make under this scheme.
This work should be completed by the target date on your Customer Repair Notice.
If the repair is not attended to by then you can ask for the work to be issued to a second contractor. If again the work is not completed in the time shown you can ask for compensation of £10.00 plus £2.00 for each day after to a maximum of £50.00.
The time limit is suspended if there are events beyond the control of Lewes District council or the contractor which prevents the work being completed on time. For example bad weather or parts being unavailable.
