The Mayor of Eastbourne performs many important roles and functions, including chairing meetings and attending and opening events, as well as supporting local charities.

About the Mayor

The Worshipful the Mayor of Eastbourne is Councillor Candy Vaughan. Her current term of office runs from 22 May 2024 - 21 May 2025.

Roles and Duties

Key roles and duties of the Mayor include: 

  • Chair of Full Council
  • Opening functions, events and new businesses as the council's representative
  • Attending award ceremonies and receptions at the request of local schools, businesses, voluntary and community groups
  • The Mayor also nominates one or more charities which he or she will support through various fundraising events during his or her term of office

Deputy Mayor

The Deputy Mayor is expected to deputise for the Mayor and attend events on behalf of the Mayor when the Mayor is not available. The current Deputy Mayor is Councillor Amanda Morris.

Please give as much detail on the form about your event as possible. At least 14 days notice is required for all engagements, and it is worth noting that the Mayor's diary can get booked up months in advance.

Application to the Mayor's poor fund

The Mayor's Poor Fund is a registered charity (No. 210664) to which organisations (only) can make a request for one-off grants to help Eastbourne residents in need of financial assistance by reason of poverty, unemployment, illness or similar.
