Council Tax empty homes review
Eastbourne and Lewes councils are committed to keeping the Council Tax we charge as low as possible.
We carry out regular reviews of empty properties to help us protect our tax base.
This means we can continue to protect public money and services.
Empty homes review in the Lewes district
A review of empty homes is being undertaken in partnership between Eastbourne and Lewes Councils and Reigate & Banstead Borough Council from 7 July 2025.
Councils are required to keep up to date and accurate records about all homes on their Council Tax systems. Each year all councils must submit a report to the government, declaring the types of property it has in the area, including the number of empty homes - if the number has decreased since the previous year, this will show that more homes are being brought back into use in a time when housing is in demand.
