Change of address

It is important to let us know as soon as possible about any change of address so your Council Tax rates can be adjusted

Change of address in the Lewes district

If you are moving into, out of, or within the Lewes district, then you need to tell us as soon as possible.

Read our guidance below on how to use our Citizen Access online forms to notify us if you are:

  • currently paying Council Tax to Lewes District Council and are moving to another property within the Lewes district, or 
  • moving into the Lewes district from outside of the area.
  • currently paying Council Tax to Lewes District Council and are moving out of the district

Moving within the Lewes district

Step 1

You will need to register for, and be logged in to our website My Account. This is a new service. If you had a My Account on our old website before July 2023, you need to register again.

You can then use the Lewes district self-service Citizen Access portal to tell us if you are currently paying Council Tax to Lewes District Council and are moving to another property within Lewes district. Note: Citizen Access is also a new service.

Step 2

Important: you must have already completed both parts of the My Account and Citizen Access 'View Lewes Council Tax Services' registrations to continue.

  • Log in to My Account
  • Scroll down the My Account Welcome page to the Council Tax area
  • Select View Lewes Council Tax Services.
  • This will take your to Citizen Access. Scroll down to Change of address
  • Select View change of address services
  • Select the option for moving within
  • Complete the online form

 

Moving in to Lewes district

Step 1

You will need to register for, and be logged in to our website My Account. You can then use the Lewes district self-service Citizen Access portal to tell us if you are moving into the district from outside of the area.

Step 2

Once you are registered with My Account and have successfully logged in, follow these steps to tell us you are moving in to Lewes district:

  • Scroll down the My Account Welcome page to the Council Tax area
  • Select View Lewes Council Tax Services
  • On the Citizen Access main page, scroll down to Change of address and select View change of address services
  • Select the option for moving in
  • Complete the online form

Once we have confirmed your address we will send you your Council Tax reference number. In most cases this will be by email. If you do not receive the reference by email, your reference will be on your opening bill. You can then complete your Citizen Access registration.

Step 3 - Complete your Citizen Access registration

Once you have received your reference, you can get all the benefits of Citizen Access by completing your registration. To find your payment history, set up Direct Debits, tell us about a move, go paperless and more, simply:

  • Log in to My Account
  • Scroll down the My Account Welcome page to the Council Tax area
  • Select View Lewes Council Tax Services
  • On the Citizen Access main page, select the link 'Register to view your Council Tax account'.
  • Make sure you have your new Council Tax reference to hand, then complete the details.

To visit Citizen Access in future, you simply need to Log in to My Account each time.

Moving out of Lewes district

If you are moving out of the district, you can tell us using our online form on our Citizen Access portal. 

Make sure you have your Council Tax reference number available before you start. You can find this on your latest bill.

 

Change of address in Eastbourne

If you are moving into, out of or within Eastbourne, you need to tell us as soon as possible.

Read our guidance on how to use our Citizen Access online forms to notify us if you are:

  • currently paying Council Tax to Eastbourne Borough Council and are moving to another property within Eastbourne, or
  • moving into Eastbourne from outside of the area
  • currently paying Council Tax to Eastbourne Borough Council and are moving out of the borough, or

Moving within the borough of Eastbourne

Step 1

You will need to register for, and be logged in to our website My Account. This is a new service. If you had a My Account on our old website before July 2023, you need to register again.

You can then use Eastbourne's self-service Citizen Access portal to tell us if you are currently paying Council Tax to Eastbourne Borough Council and are moving to another property within Eastbourne. Note: Citizen Access is also a new service.

Moving in to the borough of Eastbourne

Step 1

You will need to register for, and be logged in to our website My Account. You can then use Eastbourne's self-service Citizen Access portal to tell us if you are moving into Eastbourne from outside of the area.

Step 2

Once you have read the guidance in Step1, have successfully registered with My Account and are logged in, follow these steps to tell us you are moving in to Eastbourne:

  • Scroll down the My Account Welcome page to the Council Tax area
  • Select View Eastbourne Council Tax Services
  • On the Citizen Access main page, scroll down to Change of address and select View change of address services
  • Select the option for moving in
  • Complete the online form

Moving out of the borough of Eastbourne

If you are moving out of the borough, you can tell us using our online form on our Citizen Access portal.

Make sure you have your Council Tax reference number available before you start. You can find this on your latest bill.
