Registration of deaths

You must register a death in Eastbourne or the Lewes district with East Sussex County Council (ESCC) within five days. Registration is done by face to face appointment at the Register Office.

Delays in registration

Sometimes the coroner will be involved. In this case the registrar cannot register the death until the coroner has completed any investigation they decide is necessary. The ESCC registrar will explain this to you, if this is the case.
