Data Protection Complaints

What to do if you think your data has been misused.

You have the right to make a complaint to the Council if you think we have not handled your personal data responsibly.

You can complain to us if we have:

  • not properly responded to your subject access request
  • not upheld any of your other data protection rights
  • not kept your personal data secure
  • misused your personal data
  • collected your personal data for one reason, and we are now using it for something else

To make a complaint

To make a complaint please email [email protected] with full details of your concern, what has happened and the effect it has had on you. Please include details to help us identify you and your data including account or reference numbers.

We may ask you for identification if it is felt necessary and we are not satisfied about the requestors identity.

When can I expect a response?

We will acknowledge receipt of complaints within 30 days of receiving them. We will aim to respond to you within 1 month of acknowledging the complaint. If the investigation is going to take longer than that, we will let you know.

Complaining to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO)

You have the right to make a complaint to the Information Commissioner's Office.

The ICO would expect you to give us an opportunity to resolve your complaint before contacting them.
