Re-imagining Newhaven Completed Projects
The Re-imagining Newhaven Programme is a consolidation of three capital grant funding streams: Future High Streets Fund, Town Deal and Levelling Up Fund (Round 1).
The programme consists of 12 projects, 5 of which are complete:
Newhaven Football Club 3G pitch
The all-weather pitch and floodlights were completed in August 2022 and has enabled a new training offer and community facilities.
New Pedestrian Crossing
The crossing links the station, bus stop, taxi rank and the Ferry Terminal and was completed in June 2023.
Refurbishment of Newhaven Ferry Terminal
Completed in early 2024:
- Internal ground floor works: The arrivals, passport control, luggage collection and departure area have all been renovated. The previous interiors dated from the 1970s and the spaces are now much more appealing.
- Ferry Terminal exterior: Greatly improved with external cladding which has also improved the energy efficiency. Office spaces have been developed on the 1st floor which was previously vacant and in disrepair.
Eastside Recreation Ground
Delivered new and improved recreational and communal facilities:
- Re-landscaped and re-sized allotments to increase the available number for tenancy whilst providing necessary infrastructure such as water, sheds and fencing (completed June 2024)
- New footpath (completed June 2024)
- Replacement playground with up-to-date play equipment (completed October 2025).
Newhaven Business Grants
The grants programme offered grants to SME businesses in the Newhaven Town Deal area. Businesses applied for grants of 50% of the cost of capital projects up to £15,000. This included new equipment, machinery, commercial vehicles and property adaptations. The programme has supported 35 Newhaven businesses and created 56 new jobs. The programme is now closed to new applicants. For more information and case studies visit Newhaven Business Grants Programme.
