Clinical waste collection
We offer a free collection service for households who need to dispose of clinical and medical waste. You cannot put infectious waste in your normal household rubbish containers because it is collected separately to be sent to licensed treatment facilities for disposal. There is also an additional collection for sharps (such as needles) but you can use the same online form to apply for both.
- We can collect clinical waste from your home providing you are self-treating.
- If your waste is being generated by a health care worker, even in your home, the Primary Care Trust will arrange to collect it.

Clinical waste collections for Lewes residents
Arrange a collection
Use our online form to request a new clinical waste collection, change something about your collection or end your collection.
Non-infectious waste can be put in your normal household rubbish containers and includes:
- catheters (empty)
- household plasters
- incontinence pads
- nappies
- stomach pouches
Infectious waste must be put in orange bags and includes:
- tissue
- blood and equipment
- dressings and swabs contaminated with blood and tissue
Bags are provided on request. Make sure that you write your name and address on the bag's label. This is a legal requirement and we will not be able to collect the bags without these details being completed.
Collection days
Infectious waste is collected from 6am on Wednesdays.

A free collection service is provided for the removal of clinical waste including:
- soiled dressings
- used syringes
- needles
You must put clinical waste in a yellow clinical waste bag. Clinical waste is collected on Wednesdays.
Non-infectious waste, such as incontinence pads and nappies, can be securely bagged and put in your rubbish bin.
