New and replacement bins
If your household waste bin or recycling equipment has been lost or damaged, or if you need an additional recycling bin, you can order a new using our online form.
If you are signed up for garden waste collections and your bin has been lost or damaged, you will need to request a replacement or additional garden waste bin separately.
Rubbish must be bagged before being put in your wheelie bin.
What bins can I have at my home?
Lewes district
Refuse bins:
We will collect one refuse bin from each household, unless the following criteria are met
- large households of 10 people or more
- households who produce a bag or more of incontinence waste due to a medical need qualify to have this waste collected via our clinical waste collection service or can opt to have a second refuse bin.
- other exceptional circumstances will be considered on a case-by-case basis
You can opt for:
- a single 140L bin - usually suitable for households up to five people.
- a single 240L bin - usually suitable for more than five people
Requests for additional bins will be reviewed by our waste team and will only be approved based on a need such as households over 10 people.
If the pavement is narrow outside your home and you have nowhere to store a bin, you can request a gull-proof bag for your refuse by emailing [email protected]
Recycling bins:
You can request as many recycling bins as you require for your household.
Food waste bins
You can request as many food waste bins as you require for your household, but as this is a weekly service we find that one bin holds enough waste for most households.
Non-infectious clinical waste (this does not include nappies)
If you produce lots of non-infectious clinical waste, we may be able to offer you a clinical waste service instead of an additional wheelie bin.
To request a clinical waste service, please use our Request a clinical waste collection form.

Recycling bags are an alternative solution to some households that do not have space to store a bin, for example, they face a main street. They are only granted to certain households and need investigation and approval from our waste depot. To request recycling bags, whether this is a new request or for additional/replacement bags, please contact us.
