Conservation

Information, advice and guidance for owners, prospective owners, architects, agents, builders and other professionals looking to undertake work on property that has some level of heritage protection.

The vast majority of applications we deal with are for works on Listed Buildings and/or in Conservation Areas.

Conservation Drop-in

Come and meet the conservation officers to discuss any queries you may have involving your listed building or building in a conservation area.

If we feel that the questions asked would benefit from more in-depth advice, we will direct you to our pre-application service where we can discuss complex proposals in more depth.

All advice given at the drop ins will be verbal. There will be no written follow up.

For both authorities each session will be restricted to between 10 and 20 minutes.

Sessions will take place at the following dates and locations:

Venue: Garden Room, Lewes House. Entrance through the main entrance or the rear entrance through the back garden behind Lewes House.

Time: 2-4pm

To book a session please email Alex.Moojen@lewes-eastbourne.gov.uk with your query and as much information as possible, and you will be allocated a time slot to discuss your query. Please add Conservation Drop-in into the subject heading. If capacity is reached for your preferred session, we will email you to invite you to the next available session.

Please provide as much information as you can to help us give the most detailed feedback. This may include the age of construction, age of architectural features, plans, historic maps, building materials, and so on.  Photos will greatly aid the discussion and should show relevant details such as close ups of window glazing bars or frames if discussing windows.

Eastbourne

Venue: The Gather, Beacon Shopping Centre

Time: 1-3pm, every last Friday of the month

There is no requirement to pre-book a slot in Eastbourne.

Article 4 directions

An article 4 direction is made by the local planning authority. It restricts the scope of permitted development rights either in relation to a particular area or site, or a particular type of development.
