Lewes District Council are recruiting a permanent, Apprentice HGV Technician to work out of their Newhaven Depot, with block release every 8 weeks at Medway College, Kent.

Do you have an interest in trucks? Have you wondered how the large vehicle's collecting your waste work? An apprenticeship with Lewes District Council in this field will teach you this and much more. You'll gain the skills necessary to maintain and repair these specialist vehicles, in addition we will teach you how to carry out MOTs on cars, and light vans.

As an Apprentice Vehicle Technician, you will be involved in all aspects of maintenance/repair from routine servicing to complete component overhaul. The apprenticeship will be in Heavy Goods Vehicle and Maintenance Repair and the programme will last for three years. You will be partnered with experienced Technicians who will mentor you throughout your apprenticeship journey. You will use the very latest hi-tech diagnostic procedures and equipment on the most sophisticated electronic and computer-controlled vehicle systems.  You will also join the team at a very exciting time as we advance to alternative fleet/fuel specifications, namely Electric Vehicles (EV) and potentially Hydrogen Vehicles (HV) in due course.

This role will involve on the job learning at our Newhaven Depot as well as offsite training delivered in Medway, Kent, every 8 weeks conducted in one week blocks (travel and accommodation will be provided if necessary). When applying you must be able to commit to these "away from home" training weeks. Ideally you will have Maths/English GCSE or equivalent and you will have good written communication skills.

We are open to receiving applications from candidates of all ages and from all backgrounds who are eager to gain a qualification whilst learning on the job and you will either hold a driver's licence or be eager to learn to drive to be able to do undertake this role.

Based in Newhaven, this is a full time, permanent role.
