Town Hall clock goes green to support 'Light up for liver'

The 'Light up for liver' initiative by Liver Cancer UK will see landmarks in towns and cities across the country being illuminated green this month..

The Mayor of Eastbourne, Councillor Candy Vaughan, said: "As liver cancer is often detected at an advanced stage, it is a sad fact that just 13% of people will survive for five years.

"I hope our support helps make a difference by spreading awareness of this disease and showing solidarity with those affected by it."

Liver Cancer UK, part of the British Liver Trust, is dedicated to raising awareness and advocating for the surveillance of at-risk individuals, many of whom are unaware they are entitled to regular screening to prevent advanced disease.

Pamela Healy, Chief Executive of the British Liver Trust, said: "It's heartwarming to see Eastbourne Town Hall clock illuminated in green to support everyone affected by liver cancer across the Eastbournearea. 

"We know that increasing numbers of people are being diagnosed with liver cancer, and by shining a green light on this iconic clock, we're raising awareness of this vastly under-recognised disease, and sending a very visual message of support to those affected.  Liver cancer is the fastest rising cause of cancer death in the UK but with earlier diagnosis many of these deaths can be prevented."
