Car parking

We have on-street parking, council-run parking and privately-run multi-storey car parks within our boundary. Responsibility for parking services is shared with East Sussex County Council. Car parking prices differ from site to site.

Charges

The councils operate a number of Pay and Display and free car parks across the Lewes area. The current charges are available to download. Disabled badge holders can park free of charge.

Payment can be made by cash using coins. RingGo cashless parking is also available for car parks across Lewes district. RingGo allows you to pay using credit or debit card using a mobile phone app or you can pay over the telephone. Find out more about RingGo.

Height restrictions

The following car parks have height restriction barriers set at 1.9 metres.

  • Newhaven - Bay Vue

The following car parks have height restriction barriers set at 2 metres.

  • Peacehaven - Roderick Avenue (north)
  • Peacehaven - Steyning Avenue
  • Peacehaven - Piddinghoe Avenue
  • Seaford - Buckle

The following car parks have height restriction barriers set at 2.1 metres.

  • Barcombe - High Street
  • Newhaven - Dacre Road
  • Newhaven - Denton Islands
  • Newhaven - West Quay
  • Seaford - Richmond Road

The following car parks have height restriction barriers set at 2.2 metres.

  • Telscombe - Fairlight Avenue

 

Parking permits

Lewes District Council handles enquiries relating to concessionary permits at West Quay in Newhaven and Sutton Croft Lane in Seaford, please contact us if you need more information about these permits.

All other permit enquiries are managed by the Lewes Parking Shop.

Parking permits

Eastbourne Borough Council manages permits for certain sites in Eastbourne.

The Downland parking

Not currently available. Existing car parking permits will be valid until their expiry date.

If you have a gold 'Leisure card' you can currently park for free in Downland car parks. We are no longer issuing these and will no longer be valid for free parking from 1 January 2025.

Seafront parking

Not currently available. Existing car parking permits will be valid until their expiry date.

Bowling club permits

Not currently available. Existing car parking permits will be valid until their expiry date.
