Community Land Trusts

Community-owned and managed housing is happening in Lewes district and Eastbourne thanks to Community Land Trusts.

Community Land Trusts are a form of community-led housing, where local organisations set up and run by ordinary people to develop and manage homes as well as other assets important to that community, like community enterprises, food growing or workspaces. The main task of a Community Land Trust is to make sure these homes are genuinely affordable, based on what people actually earn in their area, not just for now but for every future occupier.

There are now over 225 Community Land Trusts in England and Wales that have developed over 700 permanently affordable homes to date and will have developed a further 3000 homes by 2020.
