Update on works at 187 High Street, Lewes
Lewes District Council has been carrying out essential structural works to 187 High Street and 2 Fisher Street, Lewes over the summer and autumn 2024 to protect this important heritage asset for the future.
The works have included shop front repairs, roof repairs and replacement of guttering and other rainwater goods. The scaffolding has now been removed, hoarding pushed back and pavement reopened. Temporary traffic lights have also now been removed.
Whilst internal works to the building continue, the council has started working with local artists to display their work in the windows of 187 High Street, making good use of this prominent location.
In May 2024, to allow the building works, Lewes Tourist Information Centre was moved for the time being to 6 High Street, Lewes which the team has been sharing with Lewes District Council and Lewes Citizen's Advice to provide a one-stop, easily accessible location for information and advice for residents and visitors.
